Which works better...

Install the lockstrip (and gasket) on the glass then rope it all in the opening at one time?

OR...

Rope the seal and glass in , THEN put the lockstrip in. (yes I have the proper tool)


I would think that the second way would be easier to rope it in given the glass will be looser in the gasket, but it sure would be easy to get the chrome corners (rear) fitted ahead of time.

Ive done it a few times and each time I put the lock strip in after. I put the seal on the truck then wrestle the glass in then put in the strip I use lots of soapy water or wd40. Good luck!

When I had mine done the gasket was new & was so 'fat' that putting the lockstrip in after was the only way it would fit.

The fellow said that once the truck sits in the sun for a few months, the gasket will conform better to the truck so removing the windshield will not be as hard to put back in again with that gasket (in case of a repaint).

So I guess it depends too on whether your gasket is new.

As far as i know it's not possible to install the glass with the lock strip installed. It's hard enough with it out. That's the purpose of the strip to lock the glass in the rubber.

I think you're right. I don't think it's possible either. Gasket, window, then lock strip. And lots of soapy water.
