1964 El Camino
G'day,
I own a 1967 GMC pickup and a friend has just bought a 1964 El Camino and needs some parts for it. If this is not the right place, can anyone tell me what is the best Forum for Elkys please? He has been to a few supposed El Camino sites, but they mostly seem to cater for the Chevelle coupe, rather than the "pickup". He needs a wiper motor mainly, are these interchangeable with any of our trucks? We're in Melbourne Australia, so that makes everything just a little bit harder when you need parts or information. TIA. Regards from Down Under. :gmc2: aussiejohn. |

Re: 1964 El Camino
The EL Camino is acutally on the General Motors A-body platform. 1964-1967 then 1968-1972 are the two major age groups. They share parts with Chevrolet Chevelle / Malibu. Pontiac GTO / Le Mans. Also Buick, but I can't remember the models...
http://www.chevelles.com/ is a great resource and there are some Aussi folks on the forums too... |

yep, elcamino is chevelle , so almost anything you need for a 64 elcamino will interchange with a 64 chevelle, the 64 elcamino is basically a 64 chevelle wagon with no roof!
obviously there are some elcamino specific parts: bed / door tops/roof, but you will be suprised what is available for these in the aftermarket. order up some chevelle/elcamino catalogs from year one, and original parts group. btw, to clarify; this is a pic of a 64 elcamino, is this what your friends car looks like? |
Re: 1964 El Camino
Thanks a lot guys, I'm sure that we're headed in the right direction now.
jonz, that's exactly what it looks like, only metallic green. It has a worked 350 with twin four barrels on an Offenhauser manifold with progressive linkage. losthope, thanks for the great leads. We'll follow that up ASAP. Regards from Down Under.:gmc2: aussiejohn |
Re: 1964 El Camino
Oooh, I love me some early El's. Yes, Chevelle/Malibu they are, only slightly more useful thanks to the bed.
