tracking arm stud removal ?

going with longer unit not mounted in stock location.
i have taken the stock tracking arm out and would like to remove the stud from the differential carrier. can this just be tapped out ? (like with a 5 lb. sledge hammer).... if so which way should i hammer... out towards the frontend ?

thanks

It "drives out",... toward the rear of the truck.

Be sure to leave the nut threaded on but loose. That sucker will shoot out like a rocket!

say thanks for the additional info rex. i have tryed to hammer this out ( with nut on - just so i dont marr the bolt threads) but it is in there good.
do you think i am just not hitting it with a big enough hammer and with enough force ?
think i will soak it with a little liquid wrench... might help.

Use a small sledge hammer.
It's tapered,... so you are just trying to break it off the taper.

I used a air hammer with a point bit and it just popped out with no problems. Should have left the nut on as it kind of flew out... LOL :D

Application of a little heat goes a long way to help loosen it up too.
