GMC and Chevy TF doors slightly different
 

I just test fitted my new door for my truck. I came from a 55-57 GMC and is a tiny bit different. The hinge bolts take a different thread pitch and the interior door panels have a different size screw. Are there any other differences that I should know about?

58 & 59 chevy and gmc trucks are far superior and had all the bugs worked out of the inferior 55-57 trucks :D:D:D

chevy and gmc changed the door hinge bolts in 58, same doors 55-59
they probably stripped a few of the coarse thread bolts in production and changed to fine thread bolts.
don't know about the trim screws though, they only sell one size for 55-59 trucks

Ogre. I hope your correct about the door trim screws being all the same, I not long ordered a set from Classic Parts.

Interesting about the hinge bolts. My '57 has fine thread bolts on both doors. The driver's door is original and the original passenger's door, which I removed, also had fine thread. The replacement RH door is from a '55 'burban and I thought someone had hacked it up by putting coarse thread bolts in so I cut the plate with the fine nuts out of the original door and welded it into the new one.

How about the countersunk screws which attach the inner panel? Is clutch head correct? Or Phillips? I've seen both.

clutch heads were original on the door latches and window regulators - but i never had a door with original door panels not removed so cant call that one either way... had a '59 that had clutch heads and a '55 on the door handles

as for doors - my 55 doors were coarse - 59 fine door strikers (bolted to cab) also changed completely! better design in later years - threads on this changed as well

I was cleaning out the threads on my door hinge nuts last night. They are 3/8-20. The screws that hold on the panel over the window regulator and door latch accuator are phillips head. Door internal screws were clutch heads.

Thanks for all the great responses. I am out of town so I can't post pics. It sounds like a year thing and not a brand thing or it could also be that Chevy and gmc may have been made in different plants which could lead to slightly different processes. On my original 59 doors the screws were just like the ones classic parts sells (big like a 20 shaft size as previously mentioned.) On this door they are much thinner like a 10 or 12 shaft size. I will post pics when I get home.

No need to put them back in, I replaced them with regular hex head bolts.

Brain fart, the bolts are 3/8-24 TPI.

I have come across countersunk screws for the inner panel in 2 different sizes. A 55 parts truck had smaller screws than my 57. I just drilled and retapped the holes in the door to match my larger screws. I've found the larger ones on several doors.
