Let the guessing game begin (going to the track this weekend)
I have been dieing to get to the track with all the changes to the truck. So, let's see who has the best guess on what the new combo will run on it's maiden voyage.
Old combo weighed 3,525 with out the tailgate and made 402rwhp with an unlocked converter (4L80E). Went 11.45@118 (with the verter locked 2nd and 3rd, 115mph unlocked). New combo weighs 3,300 with the tail gate and now makes 546rwhp through a powerglige. If I can get it to work with out the gate, it will weigh 3,175. Obviously I have a lot to sort out with the new 4-link, double adjustable rear shocks, different trans, automatic shifter, and trans brake. I have 2 nights to play with it, so what's your guess? |

I say 10.99 @125. Its like pass time! Good luck

Just curious as to your chassis weight distribution (all four corners), and where your instant center will be located.

Re: Let the guessing game begin (going to the track this weekend)
Havent corner scaled it but if memory serves it is 57/43 right now. ICG IS RIGHT ABOUT 57/5

On the drag radials, or slicks?
If your runing the stickeys, and you make it hook,, 10.4's @ 130ish On drag radials,, it's a crap shoot. 10.9 minus anything you get below a 1.6 sixty my 2¢ |
Re: Let the guessing game begin (going to the track this weekend)
Are you going to be spraying this weekend?
|
Re: Let the guessing game begin (going to the track this weekend)
10.45@130

Re: Let the guessing game begin (going to the track this weekend)
Man, all these guys are guessing the area I was going to guess. With good converter, and good hook, it should high 1.40's 60' range, and 10.40's. All bets are off if you get a wild hair and decide to spray this weekend. If the converter is fairly loose, I would run extension on the rear shocks pretty loose, and compression tight. you should hook well, if the surface is decent! Good luck... oh, we want videos!!! Paul

Re: Let the guessing game begin (going to the track this weekend)
Right at this moment I don't plan on spraying unless it is 1/8 mile. I am only turning this combo to 7k rpm and have a 4.56/30" drag radial.
Man it would sure be nice to run what some of you are guessing (actually pretty much all your guesses would make me happy first time out with all the new stuff). I will have some video to share!!! |

Re: Let the guessing game begin (going to the track this weekend)
So on the sac raceway web page, there is a da calculator based on current temp. It is 93* out righ now and the da is 2699 feet. Racing is 6-10 pm, so the track will be warm and the da will drop a little.

Re: Let the guessing game begin (going to the track this weekend)
Well, I am out of gear about 50-100 feet before the line.
Best pass so far: 1.608 6.80 @ 103.58 10.696 @ 119.89 This pass was my first trans brake launch. I did my burn out, staged, got on the 2step (3,500) lights go green and I let off the foot brake but don't move. Uhhh dummy, let go of the button. I lifted a little but stabed it and let go of the button. I let off juat after the 1,000 foot mark. 2nd best pass: 1.647 6.846 @ 103.682 10.71 @ 123.11 Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Let the guessing game begin (going to the track this weekend)
I'm late to the party, was going to say 0.6 improvement. Did you run with or without the tailgate?

Re: Let the guessing game begin (going to the track this weekend)
Tailgate on.. Gonna try and take it off tonight. Also expecting some NGK 9's so I might get to spray to the 1/8.

Re: Let the guessing game begin (going to the track this weekend)
2nd pass off the trailer. I will say the converter is definately too tight for motor. I also think a 10.5-29.5 or a 30" slick would be perfect for motor. Keep my off the line gearing and give me the growth I need so I don't run out of gearing.

Re: Let the guessing game begin (going to the track this weekend)
No changes except the tailgate off:
transbrake with 2step at 3,500 1.576 6.713@104.65 10.566@122.66 Also notice the wheel is spinning in the tire. So there is definately more in it based on it laying over at 1200ish feet, and the 60m could be improved. Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: Let the guessing game begin (going to the track this weekend)
That's great to hear Super, so were the 4.56's in it with the 4L80E?

Re: Let the guessing game begin (going to the track this weekend)
If your spinning the tire on the rim she is hooking pretty darn good!!! 10.50's on drag radials is dang respectable!!!
Just IMO here but it appears your doing it with brute force and making up for the soggy 60 just powering your way through mid track. I think I'd be cautious of hitting the tire harder with a looser convertor,,, you might shoot those 60' times right in the foot. The top end is pretty apparent there is more there.. we all know the 'typical' gain is around 22-24mph from the 1/8th to the 1/4 for 9-11 second cars. Your only picking up 18mph,,, yeah she is running out of something up there. I seriously think there is another 4-5mph and EASILY .2 in it.... on the motor. CONGRATS Shaun,, That's a respectable first outting for a brand new combination!!! |
Re: Let the guessing game begin (going to the track this weekend)
What fun weekend!!!
So yesterday went like this: 60' - 1.576 1/8 - 6.713 @ 104.659 1/4 - 10.566 @ 122.66 Had my buddy take it for a ride, I'm 185lbs, he is 155lbs, never driven my truck. I have a window switch set to shift the truck, so, do a burn out, put it back in low gear, stage, and leave. He foot braked it rather than the trans brake, he has never used one at the track. 60' - 1.60x Don't know the 1/8 10.6x @ ?? Then it all went to poo poo for a while. The test and tune during the day had very little traffic, and it seemed to go away for me, and my other buddy who was running a 70's Chevelle running almost exactly what I was (10.5x-10.7x on motor with same 60's). 60' - 2.306... I left of the brake, it blew the tires off, shifted, so I had to ride it out past to 60' mark, it just wouldn't be right :) 60' - 1.861 1/8 - 7.131 @ 103.346 1/4 - 11.021 @ 122.109 Did not lay over, forgot to plug in IAT sensor. Noticed it was pretty rich, and thought that might have been the culprit. 60' - 1.991 1/8 - 7.341 @ 103.410 1/4 - 11.221 @ 122.685 Did not lay over again, and rich again. Hmmm, something is up. Rescaled my fueling table to lean it out as it was HOT (97* ambient / DA roughly 2700), loosened up the front 2 clicks, dropped tire pressure from 17lbs to 16lbs. 60' - 1.581 1/8 - 6.732 @ 103.762 1/4 - 10.608 @ 122.247 Touched the fuel up a pinch more, checked front shock travel, I have about 8" of upward travel and was using almost all of it so I tighten up one click. I raced an S10 on this pass. I hole shotted him but boy was it close. His is in red. .526 - .541 60' - 1.539 - 1.674 1/8 - 6.673 @ 103.984 - 6.815 @ 108.115 1/4 - 10.54 @ 122. 293 - 10.539 @ 129.079 .015 hole shot led me to a .014 win :) Changed the plugs to some NGK 9's that a buddy brought up for me. Put the bottle in, changed the tune and went to line it up. The same S10 saw me and new I went to go get the bottle and asked if I wanted to go again, bottle to bottle. I knew I was done as he told me what it runs on bottle, and I know I am out of gear, but what the heck, I don't have to win :) I left on the motor, full timing off the brake, reached up and armed the system, being it is on a WOT switch, it hit right away. Just a little 57 jet (100 shot or so at 900lbs pressure). 60' - 1.521 - 1.496 1/8 - 6.301 @ 112.336 - 6.135 @ 118.44 1/4 - 10.216 @ 111.814 - 9.509 @ 142.462 I am very happy with how the truck ran, and what it ran. I wanted better than a 10.90, figured it had a 10.70, and hoped, wished it had a 10.5x in it. I think with a 29.5-30" slick, I would keep my gearing the same but the tire growth would get me through the traps without nosing over. With what it ran, I see no reason it can't go 10.4x once that is sorted out, and if I am truly lucky, maybe even a 10.3x.. |
