Anyone runnning 22" coys up front?

Hey guys I would like to run 22x9" c5s up front on my 72. I have a drop member with tubular control arms and drop spindles. If anyone is running these wheels please let me know your set up and backspacing. Thanks

22X9 BS 5.25 I'd also call Nate and have him make you the narrower arms.

I'd recommend the slosh tubz for inners, otherwise you will need to make something custom.

I know he put narrowed arms on mine although my truck is not driving yet. Nate is making me a custom set of inner fenders because the slosh tubs would not clear the body drop.

Also I am running a 20 inch front wheel up front which will equate to a 30" tall front overall diameter with the tire.

You can check out the build thread here: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=358687

Its near complete.

Exactly... 20" front wheel w/a 30" OD tire? That's a tall freakin tire....

20" but rim size dont matter, its all about Overall diameter, You gonna have to run rubber bands on your 22"s

Superfly likes to run 22" all the way around. but this truck dont lay rocker. theres alot of variables. For extreme with inner fenders run 20/22 combo.

Re: Anyone runnning 22" coys up front?

I guess I'm confused.
The OP asked if anyone was running 22" Coys up front?
Gvizzle replied 22x9,... and then replied 20's.

I understand overall tire height is what matters,... just trying to clear up the confusion.

Re: Anyone runnning 22" coys up front?

I think he is trying to see if he can run a 22" up front and what backspacing to order. It doesnt matter if its 20" or 22" for backspacing. Sorry if I misunderstood the question.

Hey thanks for the info on the back spacing GVizzle. Is anyone else have 22s up front, and if so what size tires?

I'm more than well versed on calculating tire heights.... What size front tire do you plan to run?

I'm running 22x8.5 up front with 255/35/22 tires, the overall diameter is around 29". I don't have the narrowed arms and my backspacing is 5.5

Your truck came to mind first.
I'm not too sure there are many more with a Dropmember and 22's up front.

i Z'd my frame and have a 87 front end on it with3'' drop spindles. i was wonder if i could get 22x9.5 with a 5.73 bs to tuck?

Jparks 08-31-2012 08:27 AM

Re: Anyone runnning 22" coys up front?

I don't think that's going to work. I think you're gonna be about 3/4 of an inch from being able to tuck. I've got 22x8.5 with a 5.5bs like I posted earlier and I'm about as close as I'd want to be from the fender lip. You'd need around a 6.5bs with a 9.5 rim.

It ultimately depends on 'actual' track width. I'd agree that the 9.5" wheel is going to need 6+"bs on anything that's close to the stock width.

Yea? Damn.. do you have a stock front end or do you have a drop member?

ChopperCity256, keep in mind a DM w/o narrowed arms is still 2+ inches narrower than stock.

Re: Anyone runnning 22" coys up front?

So if i have a dm with the narrowed arms and a 22x9 i should have about a 6" back space, correct?

That would be pretty close. N2Billet runs a DM w/narrowed PB arms on his 67 patina'd truck Hazel & 22x8.5's w/5.25" bs. Keeping everything else equal from the outer edge of the tire (for fenderwell clearance), you add the difference to the BS number (9.0 - 8.5 = .5; .5 + 5.25" = 5.75" minimum).

Caveat Emptor.... That much BS can cause other issues (turning radius, inner rubbing on some a-arms, etc...) so investigate thoroughly w/a tape measure on your exact parts.
