1988 Crew Cab 1 Ton
 

Look what I brought home...
1988 K(V?)30 Crew Cab, 6.2l diesel, Turbo 400, Dana 60 front
Long ago it was an Air Force truck,then a maintenance truck, now its mine
Needs some work, but looking through here will certainly help, and already has, the fuel gauge didnt work on the ride home but have since fixed it.

Plans for it include:
A visor
Maybe a flat bed (this bed is pretty beat up)
Finding another diesel tank so it can have dual tanks again
Possibly painting it camo
Some rust on the drivers rocker and floor board that Ill have to fix then hopefully rhinoline the interior of the cab
Suburban or tahoe leather seats for it
and of course a turbo or two...
... and a bunch of other stuff i havnt found out is wrong/needs attention

and its already earning its keep... heh

the dash is pretty cracked... i think ill just flatten it out and fiberglass over it
might put a radio in it as it doesnt have one now

and it had a plow on it, they put the pump on the tranny hump, cant say its a bad idea, but well see

that engine will look nice with a couple turbos sticking off it...

and thanks! ive been looking for a crew for a while and am glad to finally have found one that wasnt too beat

anyone have any experience with this product?

i found it researching por15 on a different part of this forum and it seems to work pretty well, this distributor is also a stones throw away from where i live... itll most likely end up being what i use to fix the dreaded rust. i understand that it sticks to bare metal much better than por15 and acts as its own primer?
any opinions/knowledge would be appreciated

Havnt posted in a while, but Ive got some stuff done

found a visor and mounted it

painted it camo (yeaaaa spray paint!)
i might have to respray the brown, it seems a bit light

took the fuel tank from a k10 that i have mostly disassembled at my buddies shop, drained it and will paint and install asap

i found some 37 inch humvee tires mounted on good rims that i hope to install soon, probably putting a hockey puck lift under the spring packs and body mounts, as i have over 9000 laying around. The tires should then fit with minor fender trimming.

hocky pucks dont sound very safe.. id make some 2" lift shackles and add blocks out back look on craigslist for used lift springs

I hadnt thought about a shackle lift, but that would probably be the best route to go for the suspension. As far as a body lift hockey pucks should be fine, i had friends do it to various other vehicles and theyve held up fine over the years.


Apparently gas and diesel tanks are different, the gas one has a smaller fill hole, so i guess its back to finding a diesel tank to replace the missing one


The PO had just screwed sheetmetal over the hole in the passenger floor board, so the other day I cut it all out and welded in new, and painted it all up nice and pretty, at some point Ill get to the drivers side, its not as bad though. I just need to get more welding wire and cutoff wheels to do it.


should be fun to wheel around in this truck after the hurricane hits this week :lol:

got the big tires on, no lift, minor fender trimming, if i find a cheap 1 ton lift ill get that sucker on it.
I wanna find a plow blade for it to show my dad how much easier a truck with heat is than a snowblower :lol:
cant really see it in the pics but there are dual cb antennas mounted on the front of the bed rails too, I gotta get a good cb, any suggestions?

still have to fix the drivers floor, but its too cold to paint it after welding so thatll have to wait.
there was a bowtie horn button stuck in the seat, thats on the wheel now. Ill get a pic of it later
