Pictures of rear shock mounts on trailing arms
I think the PO installed the mounts backwards, like those triangle shaped metal pieces that the bottom of the shock connect to are more towards the rear of the truck (spun around) than they are supposed to be.
Thanks for any pics! - AP |

Sounds as if he switched them from side to side, just reverse them, they should be facing towards he front.

Re: Pictures of rear shock mounts on trailing arms
okay, my mounted are a little different looking, but those pics show that the shocks should be in the front of the axle. Mine are behind.
Can anyone see any reason why the PO would do this? Also note that he put a flatbed on it, but the frame is unchanged so it shouldn't matter (I wouldnt think). It does looks like I need to spin those mounts (or swap and spin) around and then route the shock in front of the axle. Thanks for the posts and pics! Super helpful. |
Re: Pictures of rear shock mounts on trailing arms
What year is your truck? On my 62 the shocks are behind the axle. my guess is that 63 and up are in front of the axle and 62 and under are behind.

Re: Pictures of rear shock mounts on trailing arms
Your correct on the earlier x-frames having the shocks mounted behind the axle..the later ladder bar frames are mounted in front of the axle....
