Hello everyone , Have a question or two ... First I want to say , this forum is great !!!
I have read a lot of post and learned a lot in the past week ... I also want to say
I am not a typist or a good speller , so please forgive my grammar ..
I have just bought a 72 GMC 4x4 K1500 a few weeks ago, almost back together from a restoration...
Actually I dont know wat to call it , maybe a clone ? It is a 72 GMC title but the po
had put a 68 chevy front clip on it and a chevy tailgate .. My question is, the hood is not lineing up with fenders ... ( Have pic attached ) does someone have a suggestion on how and if I can fix this ? I am thinking remounting the hood hinges lower and a lttle forward ???

Welcome to the board!

Take a look here on how to properly align your body panels.

Looks like the cowl panel needs to be moved towards the windshield.

Welcome to the forum, and unfortunately cowl hoods do not fit near as good as they should considering what they cost. But, follow the advice on the link above and you'll get it a whole lot closer than that. Good luck

Pretty sure the fenders are on right , the cowl is off a little , already shimmed passenger side up half inch ... I think the main problem is the 72 GMC cab does
not accept the 68 chevy parts ... plus the cowl hood is way off ... the hood seems
to have a lot more arch to it than the fenders ... I am not a body man but the eyes
dont lie ... You say the hoods dont match up very well anyway ? Do the non cowl
repro hoods match up ?

If it were me, and its not, I would take it to the body shop and see if they could fix it for me after I messed with the alignment for a day or two and couldnt get it right.

Welcome from Central Florida. Nice looking truck. Take the hinges and latch setup completely off then lay the hood in place, you will know then wheather its worth fooling with this hood or not. I personally doubt it but at least you'll know which direction to go.
Good luck.

Just my 2 cents, but before I went any further adjusting, I'd put a couple of layers of painters tape on the edges so you don't get any chips while your adjusting.

Also I'm not sure because I've never put this generation truck together from scratch before, but from having the same sort of issues from aftermarket hoods on 69 Camaros and early novas I can tell you that there is a lot of adjustment to be had in the cowl and fenders also. In my limited experience they usually need to be adjusted as a whole. I always stared at the back of th door and worked my forward. It has always been a pain in rear end for me. That said, maybe take it to a shop?

I thank you guys for the info and insight . I will continue to play with it a while
and if I can not get it , I will take the advice to let a pro body man look at it ...
I will let you know the results ...
