Suburban Fuel Tank Transplant
Looking for information on transplanting a 30 gal Suburban tank into a shortbed pickup? Did a search, but didn’t find what I was looking for.

Re: Suburban Fuel Tank Transplant
This sounds interesting, mine is a LOOONG bed but I would love a 30 gallon tank. If I may ask what year/model suburban did they come in?

Re: Suburban Fuel Tank Transplant
I assume you mean the 28 gallon tank this is the write-up I did:

Nice any pics of how the fuel filler was ran? Or all finished with bed on it?

Re: Suburban Fuel Tank Transplant
Never got any finished pics from this one, but I am finishing up my 1987 R10 Conversion truck on my forum and it has the same setup, there will be pics of it when it is completed.

Re: Suburban Fuel Tank Transplant
Suburban tank is next on my list, I'm curious if it could be mount'd side way's so the filler is piont'd to the rear. my bed floor is raise'd 7.5" and I want the fill cap behind the tailgate.

Re: Suburban Fuel Tank Transplant
Here are the options and measurements for the squarebody Blazer/suburban tank. I'm looking at doing the same thing to replace my fuel cell. My gas filler is behind the tailgate as well and I need the filler to aim back. I have checked around and most salvage yards have the tanks for around $100.

Re: Suburban Fuel Tank Transplant
I'm putting in this 31 gallon Blazer tank in my 81 C-10 longbed in place of the 16 gallon fuel cell I have in there now. Still trying to work out new mounting brackets though.

Re: Suburban Fuel Tank Transplant
I found the big issue for me on this was the fuel fill dilemma. At first I thought I could run the fuel fill to the rear and do a flip up license plate deal, but it won't work because the bumper is lower than the top of the tank.
I wasn't willing to weld in a new fuel door on the side of the bed and I didn't want to put it in the bed floor. The taillight trick is cool, but way beyond my fabrication skill level. |
Re: Suburban Fuel Tank Transplant
It is too long rotate to the side. The tank is aready close to the pumpkin in the normal rotation. Turning it around is going to be an issue as you would still have to cut your bed sill if you want to aim it back, or if you aimed it up you have to notch the bed sill. The way it is ran is the best option.
On this one it was ran to the side and turned up in the corner of the floor... |
Re: Suburban Fuel Tank Transplant
I want to make my driver side tailight flip open, for a filler neck. anyone done that before? think it would be sweet for the rear tank.

Re: Suburban Fuel Tank Transplant
There is a write-up of the tailight mod here somewhere.
