What year motor?
Is there any way to tell what year motor I have? All I know is tht it came out of an Escalade.

Re: What year motor?
If it came with the ECM, you can scan the VIN out of it and will be able to tell. Other than that, can you post a pic? There are a few external cues that can help narrow it down.

Re: What year motor?
On the rear passenger side of the block is a number cast in the block, the second digit is supposed to be the year.

Re: What year motor?
It's definitley a 2003 -up. Judging by the return style fuel rail, I'd say it's a 2003, most '04 and up were returnless unless they were flex fuel. That said, most parts have casting years on them, look closely and you'll see a little round symbol with a number in it, that's the year the part was cast. Underside of the valve covers, aluminum part of throttle body, inside the oil pan, on the back side of the A/C mount bracket are just a few places to look.

Re: What year motor?
Well the second digit on the back of the pass. Side of the block is a 2. The number on the aluminum part of the throttle body is 03, couldnt see any more numbers anywhere (its dark)
Some of you guys mentioned the return fuel line ,which line is the return line and which one is the feed line? Also, does this mean I dont need the vette filter? Is the regulator built into one of the lines? (thought I read that somewhere) Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: What year motor?
The feed line is the 3/8, the return is the 5/16. You don't need the 'Vette filter with this set up. The regulator is on the fuel rail, it's the round part with a little vacuum line going to it.

Re: What year motor?
Now that we've narrowed it down to 02/03 you should be good to go. There are no differences between those two years. Any parts you order for one, will fit the other.
What are your plans for this engine? |

What trucks used a DBW throttle body in 2000? I thought 2001 was the first year for the C3/Denali/Escalade to use that TB? Regardless, I should have specified that I was referring to the base engine. |
Re: What year motor?
my 04 in my c10 is DBW single feed fuel line off of the rail.

Re: What year motor?
It sounds like you and I are in the same boat, we have an engine and need tons of information to figure out what to do with it. LOL. I think I'm gonna follow your progress and try to learn.

To switch to DBC, you'd need an older red/blue PCM and matching DBC harness (DBW harnesses don't have a provision for IAC stepper motor...they use the throttle blade for IAC.) I normally switch over to DBC because with my turbo setups I like to go 2 bar, speed density tunes, which a the time were only available for DBC PCMs. I've since gotten away from all the OBD2 stuff and went Megasquirt/Megashift. |

Re: What year motor?
Well OMG, WTF....IDK. Haha, ok. I will start on page 1.
PCM = Powertrain control module (controls engine and transmission) = computer DBC = Drive by Cable DBW = Drive by Wire TAC = Throttle Actuation Controller (electronic pedal) IAC = Idle Air Control TB = Throttle Body |
Re: What year motor?
Ok , gotcha. I did not get the tac with the motor, which is why I figured the dbc harness and dbc throttle body would be the best way to go. Or am I way off here. Lol
What would be the easiest setup to do with what I have? Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: What year motor?
Personally, if you're planning to buy a stand alone harness....I'd get one for a DBC setup, find a truck cable throttle body, and PCM.
Not sure about where you're at...but my local pick-a-part has throttle bodies and PCMs everywhere. I would find a PCM with the service code "12200411" and have it flashed for your setup. Doesn't matter if it was originally on a V6 or V8....manual or auto. If the serv. # ends in 0411 it can be flashed with the correct operating system for you. http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...L/photo-29.jpg |

On another note, while I agree that its an 03/04 motor, do we KNOW that its actually an Lq9? No external differences from the lq4, I've seen "escalade" motors on CL before that were just lq4's, which is still a great motor. |
