Where to find 73-87 a arm u bolts??

Hey gang! I'm doing a complete front end rebuild on my 66c10 and I'm going to hang the lower a arms using the thicker and beefier 73-87 style u bolts (advice taken from this board). Just wandering where I could get some of these without going to the junk yard? I went to the local O'reilys but they didn't know what I was talking about (they are worthless here, anyone else have that problem??).

So.... Where can I get some? Thanks guys!

Look in the Help section of your local parts store. The family owned store (Complete Auto Parts) I buy from has them in stock in their Help section.

Nice... I didn't know Napa had them. Good information to know.

I have never seen or heard of a failure on one of these. Is it worth upgrading my '65 U bolts? Mine show no rust or damage.

They look good have a nice zinc plating on them and come with lock nuts for 7 bucks I think it's a decent investment, makes the undercarriage look pretty.

It's more of a safety precaution then anything. The 60-66 u bolts are thin and weak looking when you compare them to the 73-87 style. When you see them side by side you will see the huge difference. Most failures luckily don't happen while going down the highway, it happens when you are backing up and have the wheel turned. Most of the time it is on a lowered truck. There have been a few threads about it in the past, I will try to find em.

When the brake systems were upgraded to discs, the u-bolt size was increased. The smaller ones will work on a drum or disc truck, but the larger diameter units would be better.

The later model x-member u-bolt holes are sized accordingly. The earlier trucks will require some clearancing to use the larger diameter units.

Yes, just need to drill out the original holes to 9/16 I believe. And use NEW steel lock nuts

Just bought all four under twenty bux shipped from NAPA.com to my front door. U-bolts and nuts look good, but I had to grab washers from Lowe's...

Should thread lock or anti sieze be applied to the threads?

I'm not sure.. What came with my kit from napa had grade 8 lock nuts with it. Maybe someone with some a lot of suspension experience will chime in on that question

If not using lock nuts, I would use red thread locker to be safe
