Wheel size 17'' to 16"
I have a 2005 Chevy silverado crew cab 2wd that has the stock 17 in steel wheels. It has disc brake front and drum rears. Can i put 16 in rims stock without issues. It will give me a better selection and cheaper cost of new tires if i can do this. Any info on this?

No. In 05, they started installing 13" disc brakes. 17" wheels are the minimum size wheel that will fit on 05-up trucks.

Re: Wheel size 17'' to 16"
I put 16 inch wheels on my pickup but I had to grind down the front calipers for clearance. Probably not the right way but worked. And 16 inch tires are cheaper than 17s.

Do you have a pic of where you ground the calipers also is there any issues with speedo calibration with the 16" tires?

Re: Wheel size 17'' to 16"
Sorry I dont have any pictures. I just ground on top of the caliper where it rubbed the wheel. I ground just enough so it clears I didn't have to take a whole lot off. The caliper is real thick cast I dont believe I ground enough off to damage anything. As for the speedometer it just depends what size tire you run.

Re: Wheel size 17'' to 16"
So would the 05 wheel in 17" be the same as the 08 17" as far as offset?
I have a buddy with an 05 and he wants my old winter tires. P245/70r17. Should they fit? |
