Yep. Same here. I'm using an 86 Chev Suburban for the donor. Taking the whole engine cradle assembly. I think the power steering gear will bolt on too.
I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the rear axle yet. Someone on the board posted that I can just remove the axle shafts from the housing and switch them (I want 5 lug instead of the 6 lug). But others have said I will have to switch the whole axle assembly which means I need to buy new axle mounts to weld on the sub axle. If the axle shafts are the way to go, I then need to find the ratio of the rear end in the truck. Mike |
I bought a kit from Early Classic Enterprises. I think their kit costs around 800 and includes everything you need. I bought the five lug with the drop spindles, but you can get either that or the six lug. You can also get stock height spindles if you don't want to lower it. I would highly recommend their kit. I was vary happy with it. I also converted my rear axles to five lug for more selection in wheels. I put rear discs on, but I think I could have used later model brakes off of a 72 I think. I bought axles from Ricks pick up parts that had been welded and redrilled to five lug. They were allright. One of the welds started to come out when I was putting the studs in, but other than that, they have worked well. I think ECE sells axles now also. I would give the guys at Early classic a call and get some info from them even if you don't buy their kit. They are vary knowledgable. I think most if not all of the vendors on the board also sell kits, and who knows, you may even get a discount? Good luck.

I second the ECE company. I bought their front disk conv. kit with droped spindles. Was a very easy install. (kit costs about $650.00) Also bought thier five lug axles, was a simple R&R. Pop the rear cover off, pull the c-clips, and out comes the axels. Kit came with new drums also.
