Drop trailing arms!
 

Has anyone else made there own drop trailing arms? I'm in the early stages of building mine. I'll post a pic of what I'm doing but I was wondering of anyone else has done it besides porter built.

Looks cool, but where does the axle sit? On the pad in the back or in the cup you've created? I'm guessing the pad and then the cup is for added frame rail clearance when dropped? Are the bags going to mount on the TA or on the axle?

The axle will mount on the back like normal. The springs or bags will mount in the notch. The notch is 1.5 lower the. Stock and where the mount for axle is 1.5 higher then stick. So there is the 3 inches

Makes sense, with it configured that way you should be able to run 15" wheels and not have to worry about scrub line issues, correct?

Um I'm not sure. But it wouldn't be as bad as running a big block. Im running 20s now so I don't have that scrub line problem

Wow, those look very cool. The build I was thinking of just used DOM tube with the same ends that Nate uses for his to mount to the crossmember.

Thanks man. Don't want to copy nates awesome stuff. Glad you like them. THe other piece is one of the two frame cross members that are behind the axle.

This is pic of my truck befor the 68 front clip swap
Also it sits about one inch lower in the front now. The springs were in wrong

You install the drop spindles yet or you waiting for the trailling arms to be done?

I'm going to need to wait. There is a lot that will need to be changed. Frame notch. Inner fenders need to have something done. The more I look at that pic the truck sets 2 inches lower. It doesn't rub now but it will. Might get smaller tires but that puts my Clarence that much lower. So I'm not sure what my full plan is.

well finally started my to build the trailing arms. there not done yet but atleast there a lot closer.
also the last pic is how my truck is setting with 2 inch blocks in the back with a 6 inch spring.

Nice work! Did you bend the bars up once the spring section was cut out? just wondering how you formed them. Any more pics of the rear of the arms?

there is three pieces. started as one. first was a pie cut for the pinon angle. then slid up 1.5 to get a 1.5 drop. then cut out the spring pocket so it set down 1.5. then a piece was cut to fit under the back so it was strong and looked right.

thats a very nifty idea, another thing iv seen is the trailing arm get z'ed
does take any of the flex or strenth out of it and it gives you alot of drop

right now now im running two inch blocks in the back.
