turn signal question?
Hello all, I have been having issues with the driver side front turn signal not wanting to flash at all. I noticed that the side marker light wires were cut rite behind the socket so I bought a new socket and also the turn signal socket that is in the bumper. I havent gotten a chance to put the bumper socket in yet but did put the side marker socket on and when i turn the lights on the side marker lights up like it suppose to, but the turn singal inside the cab stays dimly lit. Is this normal until i replace the turn singal socket to or could i have a crossed wire some where? Also not sure if Im wiring the colors up correctly the replacment that i bought has one brown and black wire and the stock was blue and brown.

Re: turn signal question?
You basicly have 3 wires to each turn signal socket and 2 wires to each marker light.
Turn signal socket 1. power for park/run lights 2. flashed power for blinker 3. ground Marker light 1. power for park/run lights 2. ground It seems that you used power #1 and flashed power #2 for a ground wich is feeding back to your cluster/blinker indicator. |

Ok what about the colors the replacment that i bought for the marker lights is brown and black where the stock is blue and brown. How should i hook them up? I thought that brown was ground on the stock so i hooked the black up to the brown. Funny thing is even when you wire it both ways the marker is coming on and still feeding back to the cluster, take in mind i still havent hooked up the turn signal socket.? |
Re: turn signal question?
The wires you have crossed are from your truck, not the light.

Replacement marker socket= One brown and one black I havent wired the turn signal socket yet. How does the test light work? Sorry real new to all this. |
Re: turn signal question?
You can connect the marker socket either way as long as its the original 2 wires. Cut the original turn socket off and see if it is what is feeding back to your cluster.

Re: turn signal question?
If I understand you correctly, you connected the park light power and the blinker power backwards. I think you need to switch them.

If you look at your marker light on the right side with the lights on and the right turn signal activated, you will see that the side marker flashes alternatingly with the front facing turn signal. You can test your new socket with a bulb in it to find which lead is the park lead and which is the turn lead. Touch the ground lead to the negative side of the battery then touch one of the other leads to the positive terminal and note how bright the bulb is. Now release the lead on the positive and touch the other wire to it, again noting the brightness of the bulb. The brighter lead is the turn and should be connected to the blue wire from the truck and the other(dimmer lead) to the brown wire on the truck and of course ground to the black wire on the truck. |

I once upgraded the tail light bulbs in my old 74 cutlass from 1n 1157 to an 2057 and they wouldn't flash. I changed out the front 1157NA (NA = Natural Amber) to a 2057NA and WALLA they worked great!!!!! Also double check all grounds front AND rear. Also have you checked it out with your hazards? Maybe try swapping the flashers around between your turn and hazzards. Worth a try.... |
