Welder safety
 

I'm teaching myself to be a body man. I am going to replace my rockers on 72 c10. Do I have to be concerned about the gas tank, since it is so close to where I will be welding, is it going to blow up?

No it will not blow up. If the valve gets somehow knocked off there is a lot of pressure in there.
I use C25 which is Carbon Dioxide and Argon which are non combustible. They are used to shield the weld.

I think he meant the gasoline in the tank not the gas in the cylinder.

If the truck is going to be off the road while you do it I would remove the gas tank simply because its easy to do and the hoses are usually rotted or close to it

I'd say if you're willing/able to tackle the sheetmetal work on your truck then you are more then capable of pulling the gas tank out before hand. it's only a hand full of bolts and a couple wires/hoses. not to be a downer, but you might come across more rot to fix under/behind the tank.

When you pull your fuel tank, be sure to remove it from the area your welding in. It is truly amazing how far a welding spark can travel on the ground. Remember it’s the fumes that create a high percentage of explosions.:devil:And why your tank is out do not miss a perfect opportunity to clean the scale/crud out of your tank.

I have a 79’ K-30 w/dual tanks. The first thing on my list is to pull both tanks, clean them out & replace all rubber components.
