TBI in a 66 swb

I am putting a tbi 350 with a 700r4 in my 66, getting close but ran into a problem, any one know what gas tanks fit from other trucks or cars into my frame with as little modification as possible. I want to put it back behind the axle where the spare tire used to hang. Keep in mind the fuel injection pump and sending unit either have to fit into the new tank or has to work with my 87 tbi

Check the dimensions on the 91-96 Caprice/Roadmaster tanks. They are plastic so they won't rust. The 91-3 ones will have the correct pump for your TBI setup. The 94-6 ones have the high pressure pump for MPFI so you would have to swap it.

Bobdrake.com has a 1949-52 Chevy tank with 2 holes for new or old sending units. They also offer a sending unit that you can add your own pump to. Lakeroadster installed one in his truck with minimum changes.

I will have to try the 89 suburban tank next but my 87 must have been a 40 gallon, it is huge.

My u-pull and pay has one 93 caprice and two 94's no road masters, I will hit them up tomorrow and see if they poked holes in it.

The '87-'91 K5 Blazer tanks might be a little smaller than a Suburban tank, and will have the correct pump.

IMO, the neat thing about the caprice tanks (and others) is that the filler exits to the rear.

check out various make/model/year tank dimensions here (scroll down and click on the manufacturer):

sorry, they don't seem to have the plastic one mentioned by jayoldschool, but the link can be used to find tanks with the dimensions you need. most guys seem to use the blazer tank but it hangs down kinda low

Jimmy your the one that told be the rear cross member fits just fine, I will try to steal yours but you seen how big my tank was, 40 gallon might be guessing on the low side.

Any how I am tracking down a k5 blazer one. The junk yard punches holes in all the gas tanks so there are not going to work. Going to see what I can find .

I looked under an s10 blazer and it looked to be shaped like a saddle bag style. I only looked at one it might have been a spare tank but I will keep up the hunt.

Another good question might be how to mount it, is it safe to drill through the seam on the edges and mount by those or is it best to just find a way to use the straps from some thing to hold it up?
