Interior Paint Formula

A friend who used to restore these trucks gave me the paint formula for the interior fawn color. This formula is for PPG lacquer paint.
Paint # DDL22151 Fawn Poly(also listed as Chantilly Beige Metallic)
Mixing formula: Quantity 1 Pint
Code------Color-------Cumulative------Parts
DMA383---Red--------10.9------------10.9
DMA384---Yellow------40.9------------30.0
DMA349---Fine Alum---400.9-----------360.0
DMA310---Clear-------491.8-----------90.9

I copied this formula directly from the mixing label on an old can. My friend used this in a couple of '65 trucks he restored back in the mid '90s.He is a body man by trade and is very particular.
We did some research and all of the mixing colors are still availabe through a source we have.
Disclamer: I HAVE NOT used this formula myself. A color test panel should be made before actual painting of interior.

Re: Interior Paint Formula

I did a quick google search and found a couple pics of cars painted "Chantilly Beige Metallic". It's a mid '60s F*rd color. Giving some slack for different cameras/lighting/moniters, it's close to the original Fawn interior paint. Just not sure if I could live with a F*rd paint color being applied to my Chevy.

Re: Interior Paint Formula

Yeah but Nissan isn't the main rival!

I'll admit I've had one or two of both. Actually the Nissan the spousal unit drove was a great car.

Interior Paint Formula

I copied this formula information off of an actual paint can label. The application on the label reads: OEM: 48 MFG: GM 1962 TRK
DDL22151# Fawn Poly
The Chantilly Beige MET color was on another label and read:
Chantilly Beige MET, DDL22151#
Both labels had the exact same mixing formulas.

I assume Ford's Chantilly Beige was an exact match to the GM Fawn Poly truck color!
It's my intention to offer this information as a help for other's in their attempt duplicate the original interior color in their trucks.

Maybe Ford just knew a good thing when they saw it!

Re: Interior Paint Formula

So it was a '62 Chevy color that F*rd stole in '64... now we can use that info to poke fun at restored Mustang owners who really have a Chevy paint color!

I wanna throw my 2-cents in: Had I just known this in October, my '66 would likely be a different color inside, prolly like your formula. My painter sent me to the paint store to get 2 qts of the paint for my inside; I looked at chips, picked out a darker/grayer(than your stock) one from zillions of chips; ordered 2 qts plus activator plus thinner and intentionally omitted the clear, as I didn't want it to be shiney. I really thought they were messing with me when they added up the bill and announced the total--$247 plus some change!

I then asked for a printout of the color/formula in case I some day needed to match it--and had hit the lottery! Only then did I find out it was a BMW color.

Gotta admit, tho', I do like the color and how it complemented the orange outside. Were I to redo the total paint process, even knowing the high price of the interior paint, I would just bite my lip and do it the same. Overall, what was that $200 extra when compared to the thousands that went into the total build?

I think GM, along about 1960-1962, painted the exterior of some Impalas a 'fawn/beige' that would have approached the original pickup interior mighty close, whereby we could by-pass the F**d products. And I think my paint store could've mixed that GM fawn color in acrylic enamel and saved bunches of coins. They had no problem mixing the 1957 BelAire color I wanted on my '66 truck--GM called it Matador Red in '57; and it is absolutely NOT red, but orange. Went and looked at a '57 sport cpe. my painter had just sprayed that color and it was a perfect match for the orange I had mentally stored in my brain.

BTW: Thanks for taking time to share the original formula. Many of us should benefit immensely from your generosity.
Sam
