OEM style steering wheel

Does anyone make an OEM style steering wheel that's a little smaller in diameter ? I would like to keep the stock look, but don't like how big the original wheels are !

Skymangs (board member) made a cut down wheel for his AD, cut the rim off of the factory wheel and used a smaller diameter hard plastic rim off of an early 80s ford steering wheel. Takes some welding, epoxy, some paint and bodywork but looks better thn some generic parts house or modern steering wheel.

Yep. Actually there are a few on here that have done that, you might do a search, I think you'll find the threads.

That was a good article, and exactly what I was thinking about. But I have a 72 and the 72 wheels are a bit different. 2 spokes and a texture for better grip, and some other detail.

Has anyone tried this on a 72 wheel ?

Thanks for that link !!!

Re: OEM style steering wheel

I recently cut down my stock '69 wheel. It was 17" now it's 15.5 which is perfect diameter for me.

This shows the original 17" comparted to the 15.5" after being cut down.

This is what it looks like in the truck.

I slicked out the texted portion of the wheel and radiused the cut lines to carry the radius of the corners. This gives it an oem look with just a hint of a modern accent.

Cheers!
Mickm
