Front Rotor Balance??
I have been chasing a a vibration in my truck and have been focused on the rear end. I have been driving my truck quite a bit lately and have noticed that in addition to the rear end vibration that sort of pulsates (vibe... vibe... vibe...) I have a "shake" in the whole truck at anything above about 60 mph. My question is this, Is there a way to check the balance of front brake rotors?

Re: Front Rotor Balance??
I had a problem like this years ago and it was a combination of a bad tire
and a bad wheel bearing. And a totally worn out front end...:o IMHO, you may want to get her off the floor and shake down the whole works... (front end parts, wheel bearings...) plus check your tire pressures and rotate your tires to check for a broken chord, missing wheel weight, etc. Are the rotors new? Were they turned prior to install? ... my 2 cents... :) |

Front end and wheels/tires are all new components. The rotors I got from a board member and where new but had been stored for many years. I am going to investigate the rotors/bearings as well as the wheel/tire balance. |
Re: Front Rotor Balance??
To answer your question, no, there is no way to check rotor balance. If you can't feel a direct vibration in the steering wheel then you are correct to assume that the vibration is coming from the rear. If its a pulsing vibration I would consider looking more into a driveline vibration like a bad u-joint or an driveshaft that is tweaked or needs a rebalance. Is the driveshaft a one piece or two? If its a two piece then the center bearing could be to blame also. I wish you luck in finding your problem.

Re: Front Rotor Balance??
I am considering changing the name of my build to Shake, Rattle, and Roll! I believe there are several issues going on at once. I'm just going to have to try and isolate them one at a time and correct them.

Re: Front Rotor Balance??
Very likely you threw a weight off the drive shaft causing an outta balance condition.

Hey buck new tire can be bad, do you have your old set put them back on and see if it does it and did it do it before new tires, just a thought

Re: Front Rotor Balance??
well try this jack up the rear tires, crank it up put it in drive and see if you can feel the vibration, if it does drop the driveshaft see if it makes it quit, this will elimanate the probelm with the rear end. this is how i solve probelms with buses that have 3 to 4 drive shafts in them, try it you don't have nothing to lose. Oh by the way if you can make it theres a show at rosemary beach on the 23rd, good laid back show but it needs more trucks.
