Trying to decide on engine paint color.

I am getting ready to put my 355 together and need to decide on a color. Since the truck is going to be indigo blue and a silverish color I don't want to do the traditional orange. I have a pic of a truck painted the same color except it has the LS engine in it. I have been thinking about painting the block to look like it (aluminum) but not sure it would come out right. Then top it off with the black valve covers that have Chevrolet scripted in red. Anyone know of any good engine paint that would be close to the aluminum. I will also have polished ceramic coated headers to go with. Here is a pic of LS engine.

I would paint everything under the hood blue, and paint the motor silver to make it pop.

What is the best brand paint to buy for engines. All I know of is VHT.

I've used single stage automotive paint on engines in the past. Get everything clean and spray as you would on body panels.

I have been looking at the red scripted black valve covers and air cleaner to go with but I am also eyeing this stuff.

I have seen a few do this but does it hold up to the heat. If so then maybe I could have the engine painted the same color as the lower part of the truck. Hmm. I think the light bulb just went off. Good idea. I will look into it.

That's exactly how I plan to do my LS

i'd go with air cleaner that matched tha valve covers. that one being cf patterned would stand out to much..silver block & heads..black valve covers & air cleaner..black acc. brackets..call it done.

I like the Pontiac metallic blue as an alternative to Chevy orange.

There is not one. Atleast not with that same company. Proform. I will have to look into others to find a match.

No I haven't. Didn't know they made it for engines. Just wanting something other than your typical rattle can spray. I don't think it last very long before fading, chipping, etc..

My truck will be painted close to the same color blue as yours. I will be going with a yellow engine block. I will check into that por15 myself.

The motor must be clean, then clean it again. Some folks use base/clear, I prefer single stage, it's easier to touch up when necessary.

Re: Trying to decide on engine paint color.

The one question I have is regardless of whether it is por or a single stage paint. Does the paint hold up under the heat good with no peeling fading or anything. I know Dieseldawg remarked on the POR but would like to hear from others about how theirs held up.

I've painted 4 motors with no issues at all on the last 3. The 1st one gave me problems because I didn't have the surface clean enough. I don't care what kind of paint you use, if you paint over oily dirty surfaces the paint will fall off faster than a hookers pants.

so true!! prep & cleanliness IS THE ticket to a good job!
without trying to sound like a por salesman, try it, some of their paints are rated to 1500 degrees, my headers are por20, this stuff WILL NOT burn off or brown out. as for durability- paint something with it & smack it with a hammer. i've used their products & seen with my own eye's, if it was crap, it would'nt be on my crew
