You need to take 12" out of the frame under the cab, and 8" off of the end of the frame. I believe there is a link in the '60-'66 FAQ Index, to a thread on shortening the frame. I should have pics on one of my computers of one of the ones I have done. It takes some time, equipment and the skills to do it right. Shortening a frame isn't something that should be attempted by a beginner welder/fabricator.

remember that it is a crewcab and may not have proper long box dimensions to start with. I think that it may be prudent to take measures from back of cab to centre of axle on both a stock longbed and a shortbed and compare them to your c/c to see if there are any variances between them and go from there. you want the tires to center in the wheel wells the way that they were meant to be. if they don't look right one can spot it a mile away

Man! What a good write-up with excellent pictures and ideas. (And the quality of welding is to be appreciated!) Anyone thinking about converting a lb-frame into a sb-frame should study this closely.

Ditto on the Captain's method, ideas, write-up, & pics.
