What fuel tank to use

I've got a 58 Apache mounted on an 84 C10 frame. I want to get the gas tank out of the cab but I'm not sure what to get. I don't know the differences between the 58 and 84 frames so I'm not sure if one of the tank kits that mount in the rear frame would work with my 84 frame. I can do some fab work if needed but if there's a bolt in kit I would consider it based on price. What's the best way to go here?

I have a 78 blazer frame on mine, and useing a 15 gallon fuel cell.
only fab work i had to do was the straps to hang the fuell cell, and all thread.
I used 1" flat metal and shaped it to the fuel cell. used the spare tire mount to attach it. Im pretty sure it might be the same for your set up, or why not go with with the stock locatinon for the C10.

I just did a search here and found a couple of ways to go.

LMC has a rear mount tank set up.

And the Suburban has a rear tank that will work also. See Pic's.

Another option could be a Mustang Tank.

I thought about the stock location for the C10 but wasn't sure if it would fit between the frame and bedside. Would be interested to see if anyone has gone that route.

One thing I don't understand is, is why do people switch Frames ?

do you still have the stock tank, try useing it to mock up or see where you can best use it, save money for other parts as well.

post pics if you have them

GR, is that YOUR '57 Jimmy in the last photo?

The thing I'd not be happy with about a top flange bolted tank would be the MAJOR hassle if you ever needed to lower it!! I think Orrie has commented on that problem before.

This issue: getting the tank out of the cab, along with:

3 point seat belts and
An emergency/parking brake (especially since I still have the single pot master cylinder)

...are all on my mind now as I get mine to the point of being able to just jump in and run errands with it. All are safety issues and I don't want to compromise on safety.

Remember, "Make it stop, make it go, then make it COOL!" is the motto.

I used a NoLimit tank, its mounted to the bottom flange.

Is that it bolted in? Looks like it hangs down no lower than the hitch, is that accurate?

I've read (somewhere! Lol) that U-Haul has a receiver hitch that's a direct bolt on for our trucks. I even have the model no. somewhere. Is that what yours is?

Yep and yep that somewhere was me on the hitch. Ask for the receiver by part #75133 its for a Chevy Venture . Of course some of the holes need to be redrilled.

The lowest point on my L.W.B. '57 at 5' behind the rear axle center line with the rear air suspension deflated is 5" between the receiver and the shop floor.

That's SWEET! I like the way the hitch fit's, nice addition to your truck.

It was done by the previous owner, disk brakes, newer suspension, I thought it would be a good thing but I'm starting to wonder.

Unfortunately the C10 tank was never used, previous owner left the 58 tank in the cab. I do have access to a C10, I'll try to get an idea if it's doable.

Can you not update the Suspension, and not the Frame ?
