Simple green citrus etc.. dont work. Looking for industrial type product. thanks. Glenn |

Castrol Super Clean.....

Re: Know of a good de-greaser?
If foamy engine degreaser doesn't work good old diesel works. Same stuff or kerosene. Dawn dishsoap mixed with Tide powder for abrasive alternative. Soaking is a must. Pressure washing is always good.

Re: Know of a good de-greaser?
Mix a bucket of Dawn that is fairly concentrated (4 X's the amount). I also include a touch of Tide laundry detergent.
Brush it on the greased up parts very liberally...make sure it penetrates (that's where the laundry detergent helps). Let soak, then hit with a warm water pressure wash. Retreat if necessary and hit lightly with SOS pads and/or steel bristled brush. T |
Re: Know of a good de-greaser?
Hey 64TanTruck, I just fell into the stuff jchav mentioned. It's not called Castrol Super Clean anymore though, it's just called Super Clean. You can get it for 50 bucks in a 5 gallon bucket or about 4 bucks for a little squirt bottle at Autozone.
You still have to scrape the heavy stuff, nothing will change that but Gasoline that I know of (dangerous). But it'll clean the stuff that won't scrape. http://www.supercleancanada.com/imag...aser_group.png |
Re: Know of a good de-greaser?
if you are not worried about the paint underneath, try EasyOff oven cleaner in the yellow can. Make sure you are out side... I did a frame with it and it does wonders. I hit the thick areas with a putty knife to knock off the big chunks first.

Another Super Clean fan here...

Re: Know of a good de-greaser?
Por-15 Marine Clean. Holy **** it works better than anything I have ever seen. Wear gloves or it will dry your hands out for a week.

Re: Know of a good de-greaser?
Scrape the major stuff off first, then cheap store brand oven cleaner if it's going to be repainted or wax and grease remover (made for pre-paint prep). The wax and grease remover penetrates and dissolves grease better than anything I've ever used and won't gum up brushes if you use enough. Thins grease to a water-like consistency! It's around 12-15 a gallon for the cheaper stuff, great for cleaning greasy old parts. I like to soak greasy engine/drivetrain hardware in it; it works so good that there's usually no scrubbing required- just slosh it around in a can of bolts.

Re: Know of a good de-greaser?
Scrape off the heavy stuff, apply Laquer Thinner, collect waste and dispose properly.

Re: Know of a good de-greaser?
I used to use this stuff called Red Hot from a local detail shop Knipps. Seems like they changed the name, never used this stuff. It made even the cruddiest old truck engine look brand spanky new
http://www.knipps.com/shop/kps105-er...reasercleaner/ here is the stuff still branded Red Hot, man that stuff worked crazy. I like how they tell you it can be diluted with a great deal of water, thats what I remember is how concentrated it was. http://www.texasrefinerycoatings.com...c_red_hot.html |
Re: Know of a good de-greaser?
One more for cheap oven cleaner...

Re: Know of a good de-greaser?
Purple Power, which is a floor de-greaser, works really well on misc items if you soak them in a little of it with water.

Re: Know of a good de-greaser?
Oven Cleaner works killer. Spray it on and keep it wet for 10 minutes or so by reapplying as needed. It cuts all the way through the thick stuff.

Used oven cleaner tonight worked great. Rinsed real good, for the night. Will hit it again tomorrow night for the hard to get areas.
Thanks, Glen |
Re: Know of a good de-greaser?
I'd use any pre cleaner except gas & follow with a Steam / Hot water pressure bath.

Re: Know of a good de-greaser?
I bought a 5 gallon bucket of carb cleaner from carquest and not only does it degrease but it strips paint also, its an awesome cleaner.

oven cleaner

Re: Know of a good de-greaser?
I will suggest oven cleaner also. Be warned, be very careful and wear eye protection when using oven cleaner. I was using a brush to scrub off grime with oven cleaner and it flung a bunch in my eyes once, was not fun trying to get to water to rinse it out.
