700r4 Swap

I know there are a million threads addressingthis, but I am really lost in all the comments that do not seem to match up. I pulled a 700r4 from a 93 camaro Z28 with an LT1 V8 engine. I have seen the many lockup options but am still a litle lost. I am basically needing guidance as to how to go about my particalar project. Please excuse my ignorance but this is my first automatic trans swap:waah:. Attached is a terrible picture of the tranny, but I will post better pictures later tonight. In the process of cleaning it for painting.
*Is there a difference between a lockup kit and a lockup torque converter. I believe the tranny I have is equipped with a lockup torque converter according to different forums and vehicle information. *The tranny has a 5-pin connector instead of a 4-pin connector. I understand that in the 1993 that is the correct connector, yet I have only seen ppl upgrade to this tranny/connector not "downgrade" to a 4-pin connector. If i do in fact need a lockup kit, is it possible to change the 5-pin to a 4-pin? *Is a detent cable the same as a TV cable? I dont know that I remember that when removing this tranny. I have a Holley Street Avenger and the Holley video show them hooking up a detent cable and a TV cable so I asumme the answer to my question is no, but I know those videos can be very gereric. Any other information would be extremely helpful. Thanks. |

You need to figure out the wiring inside the trans first, but basically to lock up the converter, you need 12 volt to the solenoid inside the trans. How I did mine was: -Keyed power through a vacuum switch to allow the converter to unlock upon acceleration. -then run that wire from the vacuum switch to the brake pedal switch to allow for unlocking upon braking. -then run the wire to the trans I bought my TV setup through Bowtie Overdrive. I had to run a 1" spacer under the carb (Edelbrock carb) for the linkage to clear the intake. You could make this as simple as you want. A simple toggle switch to engage the converter will work. Just don't forget to flip it! Lots of guys using the B&M lockup switch, which I think is speed controlled. I didn't like that, and went with the factory set up. After taking out the Saginaw tranny, bell housing, blah blah blah I cannot get the new starter on properly. I chose a flex plate and starter from a 72 Caprice because I'm running a sbc 400. Anyone had any experience with this? My shimming skills must be terrible, because its still not sounding great. ANY help would be appreciated.
