SM465 Bell house
2 Attachment(s)
Hello
Today My wife and I pulled the engine and trans out of my parts truck. The downside is we broke the slave cylinder ear off the bell house, whoops! So is it possible to have it welded back on? Or should I hit up the junk yards? |
Re: SM465 Bell house
It's possible yes. As I recall finding a Hydro bell housing is kinda hard for these trucks.

Re: SM465 Bell house
That's a rare and valuable bell housing. I've been looking for one for about a year. They typically go for about 250 on eBay.

Re: SM465 Bell house
Is this the same bell housing on any hydraulic assisted clutch from 85 to 91 square body?I have never compared my 80 to the 86 before...

Re: SM465 Bell house
Its aluminum, so you should be able to find someone or a shop that can weld cast aluminum.

Re: SM465 Bell house
Guess later ones had a hydraluic clutch? My 83 will make you look lopsided when your left leg is twice as big as your right from pushing the clutch!

Re: SM465 Bell house
Think I've found at least one hydro bell house, maybe two at a local junkyard. Question is what would be the best / easiest way to remove them from the trucks? I don't think I'm supposed to bring any jacks or climb under the vehicles. Any suggestions?

Re: SM465 Bell house
There is no easy way to do it. You can get them out without jacks but not without getting under the vehicles. I have pulled two complete set ups recently. The crossmember is the worst to pull in my opinion. You can unbolt it and with some luck slide it back of the transmission mount and then unbolt the transmission from the bell housing and let it drop down on a tire. The rest is easy. I would look into getting yours welded. It will save you some time and headaches
