LS swap options
Hey everyone. After reading several build threads with the LS (gen IV and up) engine swaps, I have some curiosity questions. I'm not quite sure of all the specifications of my truck, but I do know a couple. I know that the engine makes 160 horsepower and 255 ft-lbs of torque. What I find odd is that the transmission and transfer case don't seem to be anything special compared to today's items. I mean, a GM 4.8L V8 makes more power than that. But here is what I was thinking.....
I have a 4x4 so I only want to mess around with things one time. I want the engine, trans, and case to all be from the same vehicle or setup. So that rules out Denali and Escalades unless I swap in a different case. But what I would like is to put in a 5.3 with a 4l65E and NP241 case. I know just about every nook and cranny of these components so I know what to do before I swap them in to make for an awesome, long living combination. If the deal was right, I would go with a 6.0 with 4L80E and NP243 case, but it's a lot of extra weight in those components and I'm unsure if it would be worth the extra pounds and cost. Let me know what you guys think....:gmc2: |
Re: LS swap options
Sounds like you have a solid plan. Unless you plan on swapping out the front axle you are going to need a NP241 case from a 90-91 Blazer or Suburban. If you are going to swap out the front axle you need one from a 77-79 Ford F250 or F350 for a direct bolt in.

Re: LS swap options
Late model Chevys has a drivers side drop on the t case, that is why you require a Ford front axle or a 2 year only t case.
