turbo 350 vs. 200r4

Hello everyone, its been roughly a year since I was on the forum last due to purchasing my first home and having to put aside my 68 stepside project. I am finally back on it. I have a zz4 crate engine in it and a buddy of mine gave me his built 200r4. Originally I was going to go with a turbo 350 but since the 200 has an extra gear I am considering it instead but I just dont know how the fitment would be. Anyone have any input? Thanks.

first learn that the tranny is a 200 4R
it is pretty mucha direct replacement for a turbo 350 that has the short 6"tailshaft

Cdowns thanks for the reply. It is definitely a 200 4r. So drive shaft and crossmembers are not going to need any modification?

no shaft or crossmember mods needed for a short tailshaft 350 // the one tricky thing is getting the TVcable setup correctly for a long tranny life

Perfect. I may have to take it to a tranny shop for that because I've burnt up 2 700s on my iroc from the tv cable not being properly adjusted. Unless I can get a good step by step how to on here from someone.

Anyone think I should stick with the th350 aposed to the 200? I plan on using the truck as an everyday driver with the occasional track meets.

I think you should stick with the TH350 and I'll just take the 200 4R off your hands.

Anyone know if a 69 chevy van tilt column would work in my 68? Would it need shortening or any other mods? I found one pretty cheap I just don't want to waste my time making the hour n a half drive for nothing.

van columns are a good amount shorter, you will need the intermidiate shaft to be lengthend, they usually have plastic rivits you can melt to extend them out. The column will be tight but it can be done, did it with my 67:metal:
