Be Thorough When Searching For Parts!

I'm going to replace the steering shaft assembly on my CC since I'm upgrading & cleaning things up in the engine compartment (ok... the whole truck actually).

So I check my local Oreillys & didn't see anything (could have been an internet deal as their site was experiencing issues). So I figured I would check w/the frequently marketed LMC to get an idea of possible costs. I about freaked when I saw the price for their 73-91 steering shaft kit....

Knowing that LMC doesn't make these, I decided to check a common manufacturing source for steering gear (Borgeson). Low & behold, I find the same thing. Even the description used is the same so my guess is this is where LMC is sourcing their part from. Lets see if you notice the BIG difference....

So knowing this, I check the common aftermarket parts supplier Summit & find they offer the Borgeson parts line. A quick search using the p/n of this item & it's less vs from the mfr ....Plus, it's eligible for their 'Free Shipping' offer....

So be sure & do your homework when looking for parts. Sometimes digging a little deeper has it's rewards.

X's 2

I always check, double-check, and check again when looking for parts. Sometimes spending fifteen minutes can save you a decent chunk of dough.

Search part numbers on Amazon and eBay, too. I've gotten parts listed for almost $50 at Napa for $10 via Amazon.

And if you look on CPP they have them for 110 bucks.

What's the actual p/n? When I checked there, I couldn't find a match.

From my catalogue.
6768RJC.
Which appears to have been changed out.
Try this.
Look for collapsible steering shaft.

Or you can hit up craigslist/forums/local junk yards and get a steering shaft out of a Jeep Cherokee; they are double u-joint models and about bolt right in. (Small bit of work to make them work.) The Jeep shaft eliminates the rag joint completely. I scored mine at the local junk yard for $17.
