Do you guys know what the little orange fitting is. Looks like there were little hoses going there. It's a 1978 inline 250. It's right below the lifter cover and above the starter to the right. Want to know if I can take it out or what ??

Yes, it's a thermal vacuum switch (TVS) that was originally plumbed with vacuum lines connected to the early fuel evaporation (EFE) valve (aka heat riser valve) on the exhaust manifold.

If you no longer need the EFE valve for emissions testing/inspection and/or cold weather driveability, you can remove that TVS and plug the hole with an appropriate size pipe thread plug.

hey, straightsix. i have a 292, and i removed a bracket from the passenger side that connected from the top motor mount bolt to the alternator. now it wont fit. i noticed you dont have that bracket. just curios if you ran into the same problem or if the 250 did not come with bracket. also what blue is that?! i bought a chevy blue and its not the same color. sorry to bump the thread. just dont come across straight sixes that much around here.
