Is my engine setting too close to firewall??

I attached some pics.. let me know if more are needed.. any help is greaaaaatly appreciated.

Previous owner gobbed the welds up.. just wondering if he moved bit back too far... or where they are supposed to be

I have 70 c10 with th350 and it sits a lot more towards radiator

Automatic or manual transmission and are you going to move the crossmember? Some guys converted from a six to a v8 and use the original mounting of the six. Others move the engine to the front mounting position. Other variable may be the towers -V8 or six. You can also try a small body HEI that fits in there and give you a little more clearance.

One thing I am thinking of doing on my 69, if I ever find a cab for it, is to move the towers between the front and rear mount position and redrill the holes. It will give me a slightly better center of gravity and won't affect the drive shaft.

Looks like they welded the engine stands to the frame?? Supposed to be bolted down. Was the truck originally a 6 cyl? Looks to me like its sitting in the 6 cyl position.

Oh, oh, just saw the last photo. I guess you're stuck with location unless you grind the weld and reset or get the proper towers.

Its manual. I see it uses the rear two of the three bolt holes.. just doesn't seem like much clearance between firewall... what do u think?

I just moved and don't have a set up garage yet. So taking to mechanic.. he's gonna fix that b.s weld... will it be okay to stay in the position its in?

So what will I need to move it forward... cross member ? Remount where clutch rod bolts to frame?

Those are not 67-72 mounts at all. They're 73-87 mounts.

Hold up a minute.

What's the problem ? You're seeing that ugly weld there on the front edge of the mount, but notice those two real fat plug welds where the holes used to be in the mounts ? That thing isn't going to come off without a real fight. Why are you worrying about it ? Is the engine touching the firewall anywhere ? Close is fine.

^ I agree with above. Don't go overboard, that's why I mentioned on my post above a small body HEI would give more clearance.

Nah its not touching. About an inch from valve cover and dizzy still turns freely.. I guess I'll just grind those welds off and re weld.

I just put a 383 in my 70. There are two sets of mount positions. The previous 350 was in the back position. Moved the 383 to the front and it is much better IMHO.

Much better as in having room to work? What about handling.. with the engine being back a little further will the weight off the front help?

More room to work and handles great. I have sway bars front & back and a 1"/3" drop.

First I was worried about it maybe hitting if say the motor was too close.. now I guess since its ok.. are their any pros/cons

How are your cab mounts ? A set of fresh cab mounts makes a difference in clearance too. I've run small block with HEI back real close to the firewall a good number of times. Other than having to reach further back the access the engine when working on it, no down sides.

if it runs aand drives down the road i'd b happy with that// not worth the effort to change location and move it foward cause it will probally handle better the further back it sits/// if it is just the clearance for the distributor i'd talkto the firewall with my special delux BFH
