572 Install Questions

I have searched quite a bit and cant come up with the answers. :uhmk: So I pose my questions to the Forum Guru's:

I am installing a 572 BBC in my '71. I am having a hard time finding a set of headers for it,

I am needing at least 2" primary's that will bolt up to a Exhaust port that is D Shaped, all while fitting in my truck.

I do have Power Steering, A/C and a TCI 400 Super Street fighter Auto Tranny.

I do have a price quote submitted to Kooks for custom headers, but I am hoping there is something that meets my specs out there.

Call Sanderson Headers. They have a set of Gen 6 big block headers that Stacey David had made just for the 572 installed in a 67 Chevy Pickup for the Trucks TV show when he was host. They fit perfectly in my 67 stepside.

If you want to know what that monster motor will sound like when you are done go here:

In order to get the most clearance possible, you need to use big block stands and mounts. You have three choices for them.

1. 68-71 non captured type towers/ mounts. The replacement "biscuits" for these are sort of expensive. Some folks have modified small block biscuits.

2. 72 only towers that use a modern captured mount. These are a pittle more expensive initially since they are a one tear only part, but the replacement mounts are cheaper.

3. 73+ frame brackets. These visually look different but are usually cheaper all around. You will have to drill a few holes with these.

I have Hookers on mine, P/N 2841. They have 2" primaries with a 3.5" collector. I got mine through Summit. Ceramic coated I think they were $769.

They fit pretty good but not without some issues that were easy to fix/fit. The head bolts hit on the flanges, nothing an angle grinder couldn't fix and the driver's side lower control arm "kissed" one of the primary tubes. Again, an angle grinder fixed this also. They hang a little low but I have only "touched" them on a driveway (high center) a couple of times.

It's an Entropy radiator. http://www.entropyrad.com/ I bought it with 14" fans but after installation it was determined the 14" fans were inadequate. A 16" fan set with shroud was fabricated and Entropy just swapped them, I may have had to pay shipping.

Re: 572 Install Questions

Nice looking headers Randy, I looked at those pretty seriously, but the headers I have know only have 4 inches clearance and decided to try the Sandersons, as they are a mid size header. They wont be below the frame, but unfortunately they only have 1 7/8 Primary tubes. Hopefully that wont hurt my performance too much.
