Factory front sway bar?

I'm thinking of buying a sway bar from a guy here, but I don't want to pay to much.

How much is a used 72 sway bar worth. It's missing the bushings.

Thanks

Wow, tough call. Its just a funny shaped piece of steel rod but prices range a lot. When I go to the boneyard to pull a part I always ask the guy "How much would you charge for this or that?" Before that I yanked a sway bar from a 67-72, even got the guy out there w/ a torch to cut out the rivets for me. He then charged me $75 Cdn. I guess I had to pay a little extra for the help. But I still figure it was a bit steep. I then had to go buy the bushings etc.

I bought one for $50 but that included a little $ for cutting it off the truck. I'd say $25 or $30 if you have to cut it off yourself.

If you can't get the 'yard to cut off the brackets for a reasonable amount, unbolt everything you can and then go to the GM dealer and order pn 6271375. I paid just under $10 each for the brackets and $10 to the 'yard for the bar. Best $30 I've spent on my truck so far!!
BTW, the bars are the same from 67 to 87 and even later on Subs. The heavier trucks have a larger bar if you want it even stiffer than stock.

Good Luck

you can buy 'em all day around here for $10 - $20 ... you pull it

I think I paid about $15-20 for mine at the yard, the guy just gave me a price for all the stuff I had got that day and that sounded good, had to buy new brackets and bushings also.

found out on the way home it was $16 if I pull it myself. I think that is fair enough.

Thanks for all the replies.:flag:

$16 sounds good, what is it off? there are different sizes of bars.

Make sure you get the correct bushing,
the guys at the parts stores get all confused when you tell them you want a part for a 72 3/4 ton for your 70 1/2 ton

LOL! you shoulda seen the look on this kid's face at Auto Zone a couple weeks ago. I took the alt in off the caddy engine and asked him to test it, when he asked what it is out of I told him we'll pretend it is a 78 Eldorodo. He looked confused and asked what I did. Told him the alt conversion is simple with just a simple harness mod.
He said " I don't think I wanna even know about that".
You shoulda seen his face when i told thim the whole engine was in my truck!!!
