Heater box removal tips

So the PO installed my heater core upside down. (3/4" line on the bottom) I need to look in there anyway to see what else needs attention so I am going to remove the heater box. I need to know if the box can be removed without disconnecting the hood hinge. I know the inner fender needs to come down. I will be working by myself and I see potential for disaster if I take one side of the hood loose. Any tips to keep me from messing something up? Thanks!

I just did mine. I chose to leave the front bolts in the the good hinges and lowered the hood down on a broomstick resting on the floor. It was a pain to get the lower outer bolt/screw, but its done.

Make sure you put a towel under the corner of your hood so it will not scratch the paint

I took the hood and inner fenders off.

Once I got inside mine I found the inside metal on my heater box was badly rusted so I found one here (see link) in case you need to do the same. Non AC only though.

Thanks, but I don't believe I will be going that route.
