Data link connector??

Has any one added a Data link connector to your truck harness?

Pretty sure almost everyone has, what's your question?

Did your harness come with it or did you add it?

If by data link you mean obdII, then you pretty much require one. No way to tune it without getting into the pcm.

Re: Data link connector??

The ALDL connector is part of the dash harness in a factory vehicle, if you're modding a factory engine harness to stand alone, then you will have to add it. Its pretty simple just a constant power a couple of grounds and a single data wire to the PCM.

Could you tell us which wires? I have the 5.3 and I want to modify my harness. You said a single data wire but I see data wires for blue pin outs 14, 15, and 58. 58 says data to obd2 but the others say data too. What do th other two do? Please clear this up for me. I used this http://www.lt1swap.com/99-02_vortec_pcm.htm

Thanks

What year is your 5.3? The 14 and 15 are for 2000-2002 drive by wire harnesses,. I believe they may go to the TAC module, but I'm out of town at the moment and can't check for sure. But anyway, the 58 dark green wire is the one that goes to the ALDL, at least on a 2000-2002.

Thanks. Mine is a 2000 drive by cable. I want to do my own harness modification but the 3 points that I am most confused on: the OBD2 (is ALDL the same thing?), check engine light, and electric fans. My motor has a mechanical fan that has to go for clearance.

I hope extending the topic isn't thread jacking :)

I'm not trying to hijack this thread, but I just want to clarify all of the necessary wires for the DLC. This diagram from AllData (for 2000 5.3) shows pin 4 being a ground, and then pin 5 being a PCM ground. Can these just be the same body ground? The only wire I have from the PCM for the DLC is the dark green serial data wire, which will be pin 2 on the DLC.

Re: Data link connector??

The Grounds can be connected to any good body ground, You have everything else figured out.
