Will Skyjacker 2.5" springs support big block?
I plan on bumong my 88 1 ton up about 2-3" in the front. I here many speak highly of Skyjacker springs and they make a 2.5" front lift spring set and rear block kit for a 1 ton. Since it is made for the 1 ton will it support the 454 alright? I don't want to spend the money if the springs will sag under the extra weight because I really want that 2.5" in height. The kits isn't cheap at $450.
Anyone have any suggestions for another front spring set? Does anyone know if the springs would be the same width as the stockers? I've heard sometimes they narrow the width of the spring and use bushings to take up the difference. Thanks |

I don't know the product, but when I'm forking over hard earned cash, I don't hesitate to contact the company and ask. If you have any problems, you'll have to deal with them anyway.
Hopefully someone can chime in with an opinion and/or other options. (or slid over to the 4x4 section) |
Re: Will Skyjacker 2.5" springs support big block?
the skyjacker springs will hold your 454 with no problem. i have 8" skyjacker springs in my crew for 7 or 8yrs now & they have only come down about an 1/8. they are 2 1/2" wide.
i'm running a 454 as well |

I will have to check my crew tomorrow for sure, but I think there are only 2 u bolts on the front left hand side. The right has bolts going into the axle if I remember..Not sure about the lift blocks, but they shouldn't matter dually or srw.

if your crew still has the d60, you will need 7 u-bolts & two 9/16 bolts on the pass. side, inboard.
like Rubble says, shouldn't matter 'bout the blocks, their one of the more universal parts, long as there as wide as your pack |

Re: Will Skyjacker 2.5" springs support big block?
The inner side of the Dana60 front axle will have 2 studs w/nuts going up thru the plate. These are usually replaced with bolts when the lift spring's thickness is greater than the original springs. It is not necessarily the best idea though, studs are better in this application.
The internal threads of the cast iron housing are inherently weak. When you use a stud, the threads only "see" the tension applied to the stud, not the torque. |
