Big back window conversion?
Hey all I recall one member taking this on but not sure what the result was. Has anyone performed this conversion? How did it come out? I imagine this would be a huge undertaking. Curious if it's really possible.

Re: Big back window conversion?
I think there is one in the projects/build threads section but may be mistaken.
Unless the rest of my cab was nearly perfect I think I would just consider getting a decent big window cab and prep it, paint the interior, put what ever coating on the bottom and swap cabs. |
Re: Big back window conversion?
I think you are referring to thump16's thread.

Yes sir I was, come to think of it and I can't think of a better tutorial to send someone who is considering doing it to. It also will very quickly let a guy or gal figure out if they are up to the task and want to undertake it. |
Re: Big back window conversion?
looked thru thump's bbw conversion again.
$1200 in parts and a lot of work but the finished product should look good, when he finishes it. plus you get all new cab corners in and out :D |
Re: Big back window conversion?
I think, when the time comes, I will take on this challenge.

Re: Big back window conversion?
I'm considering it too, but getting rid of the straight axle is next on my priority list.

Re: Big back window conversion?
My uncle is doing the conversion right now on a 66. The catch is that gm produced 3 cabs at the time. One was only for the small window (the truck he has). One was produce only for the big window. And a third had the small window but was designed so that you could cut the cab out for a big window. He found the third cab. It requires a lot of prep work but win carful cutting its by far the best way to go.

Re: Big back window conversion?
I had to stop work on my conversion due to my fathers brain cancer surgery. He is alive and well on the way to a healthy recovery considering his tumor was the size of three golf balls.
As far as the conversion itself, I have everything prepped and ready to weld in. Instead of using my small inner window frame I opted to use the one piece inner window and pillar.http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/a...1&d=1352858580 So if anyone needs the inner window frame support Pic below, I have one in the attic.http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/a...1&d=1352857140 |
Re: Big back window conversion?
Thump first and foremost Godspeed to your dad and all the best with his recovery . Do keep us informed about the progress you make with the conversion.
