oil pressure help

at idle my oil pressure gauge shows around 10 to 20 and fluctuates back and forth at times. when i am running down the highway it is pegged at 60. what would be causing this oil prssure switch, gauge going bad or oil pump?

Re: oil pressure help

I would install a mechanical gauge to verify your readings.

I appreciate it. I am having issues with my 87 r10 choking when the throttle is punched. I don't think it is related to the oil pressure but would still like to know why it is reading so high.

Sounds fine to me, my rebuilt 383 gets about 20 at idle hot and 60 at speed.

Re: oil pressure help

at idle the gauge needle fluctuates and doesnt stay at a constant pressure according to the gauge needle. at idle it will bounce back and forth from 10 to 20 and on the highway sometimes it shows anywhere between 30 to 60.

Re: oil pressure help

prior to this starting to this happening idle pressure at around 20 and highway at 60 with no fluctuation of the needle. i am hoping it is the oil pressure sender that just needs to be replaced.
