Bolt length for P/S on 72
4 Attachment(s)
Howdy, going over all my parts to convert my manual to power steering and realized I don't have bolts to mount gearbox.
Hopefully someone has their bolts out they haven't installed yet and could tell me. I know there are some Chevy gods on here with that knowledge in their head:) Getting ready to start tearing my daily driver apart and let's hope I can find bolts at Lowes/HD tomorrow. Bought every belt size I could look up at AZ, want to replace with GM when I know correct size. Hopefully I can use the Doorman rag joint until I can get OEM type...might also steal off my 70 camaro. Thanks in advance! |

i would use the old bolts from the manual steering box, should be the same...you might have to get some a little longer

Re: Bolt length for P/S on 72
i would take the belts back and mount everything first , then go back to the store and get the one listed for a stock set up and go from there on your measurement, you might get lucky and get the right one first

Re: Bolt length for P/S on 72
I did same conversion a couple years ago. Used same bolts from manual gear box. A trick I learned on belt size is to take a sturdy wire or small diameter rope and after everything is mounted, run said rope/wire on same route as the belt will be on. Use that length for your belt size.

Thanks bigmac73 and gipper, the 3 manual gearbox bolts worked and I scrounged up an extra in the garage.
Forgot I needed a coupling to mount to gearbox side. Luckly my 70 Camaro coupling was the same size. Poor Camaro will never get pack together.:waah: |
