Parking Brake Cable

My truck is a 72 SWB, and the PO had hacked the parking brake cable. I've replaced the the cables and hardware, but I was missing the 2 loops/guides that I assume would attach to the frame. I've seen them in diagrams in catalogs, but wasn't sure if they were only used on LWB trucks? Do I need them? Any pics of the cable routing on a SWB would be much appreciated.

I also need to find the brake cable lever that installs inside the driver rear drum, behind the shoe. Does anyone know of a source? Doesn't look like Brothers, GMCPauls, or LMC carry it. I'm thinking I might be doing some salvage yard searches...

I just cleaned my drivers side rear brakes today. Here is a bad picture of the cables and the rods you speak of.
The rod is right behind the crossmember.

I checked the local car quest today but no luck. I think our best bet is to find someone parting out a truck or someone who's done a rear disc brake conversion who has the drum parts left over

Your welcome,
I have it up on stands I will try and get some better pictures of them. All they are is slick rod with a circle hook on the end of it for the cable to ride in.

Did you ever find the lever? I found a GM part number for it: 3842980 if you do a Google search you will probably find one. Also, the GM part number for the spring is 1312281

Thanks for posting the part #'s - I haven't gotten the strut or the spring yet. I hadn't thought about getting them, but maybe I need to??

Here's a pic from LMC of the lever you need in red, they have the spreader/lever/strut but have it listed for 3/4 ton trucks? Do we need it for the 1/2 tons?? They don't sell the spring, but found the spring through O'Reilly Auto Parts - they may even be able to get the strut/lever. The final part I'm looking for is circled in blue, the parking brake cable attaches to a notch on the bottom. I need to find it for the driver's side but have had no luck what-so-ever...

What rear end do you have? I found it at NAPA for my 3/4 ton with a Dana 60 ?

Ah, I misunderstood which part you needed. Yes, I need the part circled in red. The part numbers I posted are for that part and the spring that fits over that part. I don't know where to get the part circled in blue. I will see if I can find out for you.

Mine's the original 1972 GM 12-Bolt (1/2 Ton). You were able to find the parking brake arm that the cable attaches to? Or do you mean the Strut with the rectangular spring?

Thanks for keeping an eye out for me! I'm glad you were able to find the parts you needed!!

The part numbers I posted were for the strut and spring. Near as I can tell, the part numbers for the emergency brake levers that you need are 15594177 for LH and 15594178 for RH. Hope this helps.

Bringing up an old thread, but I'm realizing I need the spreader bar/ strut that's circled in red above. Were ya'll able to find this for the 1/2 Ton 11" drums? I can't get the part numbers to bring anything up and I'm not sure if the LMC part is correct for 1/2 Ton...
