Ok, what did I almost tear up driving 65/70 in 4 wheel drive
I drove into my friends yard and almost sunk. So I did not want to tear up his yard so i put it in 4x4. 4 high. after i parked, I forgot i had it in 4 high, but i did put my hubs in free mode after i got off his yard. long story short,
I drove 45 miles about 65/70 with my hubs in freemode and my shifter in 4 high. In normal driving conditions you cannot tell its in 4 wheel drive mode. On the freeway i did feel a slight vibration. When i got home I had what looked to be ATF fluid on my tailgate and all over the bottom of the truck, not severe but just coated. truck is back in 2 wheel mode and runs just fine, But if Im correct, your never suppose to drive in 4x4 mode on concrete. So can i ruin anything, or if something was gonna break i guess it would have already broke huh?. I have taken my truck to the car was and wash underneath, no oil leaking now, but i need to make sure there is oil in the TC. What type of oil do i put in the 208 TC?? Thanks :smoke: |

Your t-case will hold about 3 quarts dexron VI auto trans fluid.

Put some fluid iner and if it still doesn't leak i'd say u had too much pressure in it causing overflow

so how do i tell when there is enough fluid. Do I just top it off to the fill hole??

I wouldn't think it could hurt much at all if you didn't have the hubs locked. Wouldn't matter if you were driving on concrete/asphalt/dirt because the driveline dose not care what/where you are driving if the hubs are unlocked (they are not connected to the ground since your hubs are free-wheeling).
I don't know why you would have fluid everywhere though, that seems odd. maybe it was overfull? I would check the T-case fluid level and if its near full, leave it alone. Personally I live in IA and somedays when we have snowstorms I will put the truck in 4x4 and drive 55-60mph for 15-20 miles, I've never had an issue with it. |

Depending when you changed it last, now would be an excellent time to drain |

While you're under there check the vent line, I would pull it off completely and run some compressed air through it, make sure there is no plugs/obstructions, also checking the plastic vent cap in the process. If the tcase heated up and that vent line was obstructed it could've caused the oil to push out the rear output.

You could also have a bad seal between the transmission and transfer case allowing ATF to leak from the transmission to the transfer case causing it to be over full. Check your levels, you'll know right away where the oil came from. Something will be low and/or something will be over full.

How did you not see a blaring orange light on the speedo that reads "4 Wheel Drive"
