Barrel Nuts.
I'm curious how easy they are to get the emblems off afterward. Also, some concerns that the barrel nuts will chip the paint and start rusting. My emblems were held on with a tube of adhesive. |

Re: fender emblem mounting
It actually depends on the year as to how the fender emblem is held on. Some years used barrel nuts pushed in to the holes that retained the emblem studs. Some years used speed nuts on the back of the emblems on the studs on the back side of the fender.

If you saw some vehicles with barrel clips on them you were probably seeing a vehicle that had been repaired in the assembly plant. Normally this would be because a wrong emblem had been installed (ie, Custom Deluxe emblem on a Scottsdale, Chevy emblem on a GMC, or whatever). By the way, the technique we used for removing them was to break them off. A small piece of wood placed on the emblem and a sharp whack with a hammer pops the studs off (or breaks the emblem in half). Insert a barrel clip, pop a new emblem on and ship it, all in 45 seconds or less. Quote:
