Drivers Side Cab Vent

1972 Cheyenne Super, Factory A/C truck:

In the drivers side kick panel, there is a door that appears to be operated by a knob that you pull on, to allow outside "fresh" air into the cab.

I can pull the knob, but the door moves very little, and certainly does not appear to open enough to let any air in.

What am I doing wrong, or how does it work?

Thanks,

Rich

Its the kick panel vent. They are manually operated, pull the knob aft to open. On A/C trucks the right vent is used for outside air introduction during blend operation. If it is sticking/stiff it might be rusty from non-use or there could be a lot of debris down inside blocking it. Either way take a look and lube the moving parts then see what happens. Might have to pull it apart to make it work. If you don't have one it would be a good idea to buy a driver's handbook (owners manual) in addition to the factory service manuals.

To add to what Tim said, the vent should open 90º.

There are spring loaded detent pins that hold these in, take the pull handle lose and open the vent by hand and you'll see the pin.

I recently had the same problem. Remove the vent, clean everything, and reinstall where the vent will open from the front of the cab, not from the rear.
