Np 203
I got a second 203 with a part time kit installed, and was playing around with the shift linkage to see how it does.
The stock one seems to work right, but is a dual stick kit work it or just a waste of money? |

If your rock crawling or riding some super tight trails it could come in handy,On a normal 4x4 truck i don't see much use to shift to each axle independently.

I would say yes, it is a worth-while up-grade. The original shifters are marginal at best and it doesn't take much dirt/mud to bind one up. Then you are stuck in 4x4 or can't get it into 4x4 when you need it.

I love using my twin stick, as the stock NP205 shifter had a tendency to wander between shift points and I could never know what my axles were actually doing. Now I can quickly glance at the shifters and know what's going on.
I also like to use 2WD low when I'm maneuvering trailers so that I don't have to feather the clutch as much. |

The 203, and 205 share similar shifters, and I think when I get rolling on spending money after the truck is running a twin stick would be nice. So I will get that instead of rebuilding my factory shifter. As I like to know where I have my gear selection for mpg, and offroad.
Any brands that are recommended? |

Just some input, I did a twin stick on my 203.
The single was all greased up and loose, it wouldn’t even put me in loc. I did a DIY twin stick and it works great. Spent like $10 for some steel and bolts. No problems yet. I used a 3spd stock car shifter from speedway motors and made some linkage with small heims and links from Speedway as well.
Like this one: 49.99 http://www.speedwaymotors.com/3-Spee...fter,1929.html I have also seen some people use two stock shifters on a longer pivot bolt and some heat/bend of the sticks. Lots of 203 haters her but I have had good experience with mine. Got is used in 1985, had it rebuilt with a Doug Nash shaft conversion kit. Drove it 7K+ miles a year until 2000, with lots of off road in mud, snow, fording streams, etc. without any problems, I always ran out of nerve before potential. Only drawback was the factory shifter, I got real good at jumping under the truck with a big screw driver to get it OUT of 4wd. I converted it to a twin stick, link to thread is below. Drove the truck in new configuration a couple of weeks ago just up and down the street but it seems to be working fine. I never had any issues with need more fluid, etc. but then at least once every two weeks the hubs got locked in and the unit used.
