Serpentine setup from junk yard
What is out there that I can use on my truck for a serpentine set up? I have a long water pump and power steering. Also have a vintage air.. Will an 88 cheverolet truck work?
Thanks |
Re: Serpentine setup from junk yard
Yes, 88-95 truck. Be aware that your A/C header pipe will probably not work since it moves the compressor back.
If you can get a whole setup- Van, Camaro, and Caprice work too. Corvette will work, but with the aluminum water pump you have to use an electric fan. IMHO don't bother with the CS130 alternator, do a CS144 swap while you are doing it. |

also 97-99 4.3-350 will bolt up just changes the places of everything

Re: Serpentine setup from junk yard
I'm interested in doing this swap aswell, do you still need a reverse rotation water pump if you go with the 88-95 truck surpentine set up??

Re: Serpentine setup from junk yard
Avoid 88-89 model set ups. They used steel brackets which were very prone to breaking and cracking. Aluminum ones started in 1990 and had none of the problems that the steel ones did.

Re: Serpentine setup from junk yard
Keep in mind that the brackets are different between the years. Best bet to get all the brackets, accessories, and fasteners off the same donor. Then as parts (water pump, PS pump, drive belt, idler pulley, alternator, etc) are needed get the replacement part for that donor. Nice thing about a truck donor is that the AC compressor is on the passengers side and the alternator is on the drivers side. A few years ago Car Craft did a very good article on this swap and it's still on their web site.

Re: Serpentine setup from junk yard
