Sanding down my frame and found this

Does any one know what this is for or means? My door vin and paperwork says 67 c10. It was a one owner and he said the frame has never been replaced.

Thanks

Well that surely makes you go ummmm. Can you find any other numbers on your frame? I thought that vin numbers should be the same on the frame as the vehicle.

Look on the left top side of the frame rail up close to your power steering box. This area should have part of your vin number stamped into the top of the frame rail in this location...

I dont know brother, maybe its not even a date. Instead its a code for the factory. I can't place the location of your numbers... Where are they? I will look on my frame to see if I can see anything. (Tomorrow)

Something I did find is that 73 and up frames are thicker metal so if you can find a older frame and mic it against yours that might tell you if its a newer or older frame.

Are you coil or leaf spring rear end? Sounds irrelevant but I've never seen a 67 c10 without coils and a 78 would be leaf

Leaf springs were optional on '67 C-10's....

Here are pictures I found on my 69 frame in addition to the partial VIN in the normal 2 locations. I assumed they were numbers to I.D. parts for frame assembly. It doesn't look to me like any of the numbers are date related. My truck is a C20 produced in Dec., 1968. As I recall these were on the right and left frame rails near the front crossmember.

These are located on the frame where the drivers door would be. My truck is also leaf spring I just converted to coil PITA

Don't know what those numbers mean, but they were put in at the time of production, of the frame rail. You want the numbers that were put in at the time of production, of the truck. This number is a partial vin (last 8 digits of your VIN) and will be stamped on the top of the driver side frame rail, in two places. See pic.

I just rechecked my frame pictured in post 10. That's where mine are stamped also. About 6" behind the front cab mounts. The standalone 452 is where the right front bumper bracket attaches. The number shown in the third picture is actually 3935812. The 1 did not show up well in the picture. If it helps, I am 100% sure my frame is original to my 69 coil spring 3/4 ton. Does anyone know who made the frames for GM? As I recall, A.O. Smith made frames for some companies.
