oem gauge fitment?
 

hey fellas! im looking to rework my dash gauge assembly.

im liking the "new ole school " look of the OEM appearance. I have a universal " hot rod kit" wiring harness.

my question is. will the OEM gauges work with "new sytle" sensors? ie, fuel sender, oil pressure and water temp?

theres a vendor on here that refurbishes them close to new.

No, you need to use "OE type" sending units that are electrically compatible with the gauges. Sending units meant for newer applications or aftermarket gauges typically have different resistance ranges that will result in incorrect readings if used with OEM gauges.

The 60 - 66 truck fuel gauges require a 0 - 30Ω sending unit.

The water temperature gauge originally used a GM #1513321 sending unit that is spec'd at 520Ω ± 20% @ 100°F and 81Ω ± 10% @ 220°F.

The oil pressure gauge is mechanical and does not require a sending unit. You will need a Weatherhead #6100x2 (or equivalent) threaded sleeve nut to connect 1/8" OD steel or copper tubing to the back of most GM mechanical oil pressure gauges.

I've done this with other vehicles, use OEM gauges and sending units and new harness. Rule of thumb is match the gauges to sending units. If you swap out gauges, swap out sending units (unless new to new, old to old, etc).

You may end up modifying plug ends (one gauge takes bullet type connector, other spare, or another ring, etc.)
