Re: steering column question

60-62 had different parts on the inside....especially the cancel cams. I'd look for 60-62 parts. I have some sources for them at home that I can post tonight for you. The parts are still available.

well im missing the wiring and everything they basically gutted it for some reason thats why i was windering if i could use the assembly with the wiring from brothers. i have an after market wiring harness so the wring difference wouldnt matter to me. i was hoping to put the 63 cancelling cam and the wiring in my 60 column

Re: steering column question

60-62 turn signal switch was mounted near base of column actuated by a cable from the cancel cam. 63 up is a better design everything is in the t/s housing.

Re: steering column question

I'm guessing your truck is a 60 by your forum name? And you have a 60 column. Why would you want to convert to 63 parts? Seems it'd be easier and cheaper to replace the missing components and reuse what you have and it would also be correct.

I agree with forestb...I do not think you can use 63 parts in that column, but I do not know for sure. I've always replaced with the correct year parts for what I'm working on. The column wiring and parts are not that hard to install.

Re: steering column question

I have a 1960 GMC, and turn signals were optional. The original owner ordered both line items - front turn signals, and rear turn signals. That provided the entire mechanism inside the steering column. I am assuming if you didn't order the turn signals, there was no mechanism inside the column.

I have also seen several NOS kits on Ebay over the last few months offering the entire OEM kit for installing signals in a 60-62 column. If you want to keep the stock column, I'd start looking there for one of the complete OEM kits that provides the entire turn signal system.
