I want to change my 8 lug front drums over to 5 lug. What yrs will work n any other type vehicles work ?????

i have a 68 that had front 6 lug drum. i wanted 5 lug disc. so i bought a crossmember from a 75 1/2 ton chevy and replaced the front end (crossmember/suspension...etc) even though all those year models (73-87) will work i'm real sure that you can just buy different spindles for your year that support what you are wanting. (you will have to buy the rest of the stuff; i.e. rotors, brakes, etc...but you was going to have to do that anyways) I even think that 70 & 71 had 5 lugs from the factory. maybe hunt some of those down??? if you are dropping it you could just buy drop spindles for your year, :metal: just my quick .02, good luck

Just found a bone yard out here that have a cpl tfk 67-72

I met a guy on c.l I got parts from hes got em but keeps giving me excuses about diggin em out

I did this conversion. I bought a '72 crossmember, the frame was cut at the firewall. $150.00. A matching '72 3.07 open rear end. $150.00.

This netted,
Power steering,
all '72 steering linkage,
Disc brake assemblies including good rotors.
Taller gears for highway driving.

Additional expenses:
New calipers at carquest, $25 ea.
New flex brake lines, $25 ish.
New booster with M/C and prop. $225
$20 bucks worth of brake tubing.
$40 for turning drums and discs.
$30 for new shoes and cylinders, springs, etc.
$20 for paint.

Now it drives almost like a car. A pleasure to drive compared to manual everything. A set of 8" rallys and I'm happy.

:Note
Later coil rearends are, I believe, 1 1/2" wider than orginal '67s.

I personally used a set of 73-87 front control arms and spindles on my 69. Easier to find in the junkyard and the bushings and ball joints are cheaper when you rebuild them. They bolted right to the crossmember, didn't have to change the k member at all. Just make sure you use parts matched to the year you pulled from, even steering linkage.
